Gum Treatment

To maintain proper oral health, it’s very important that you take care of the health of your gums, so that if problems are detected, they can be treated early. We provide comfortable, gentle hygiene cleanings for all ages. We will also screen at every visit for signs of more serious problems. Periodontal disease, or gum disease, affects millions of Americans and is a painless infection of the tissues surrounding and supporting the teeth. In fact, it is the largest cause of tooth loss in America and you may not even know you have it.

Recent studies also suggest a relationship between periodontal infection and heart disease, diabetes, lung disease, risk of stroke as well as other series health concerns. Since it can lead to serious complications like tooth loss as well as have an effect on your overall health, it is important that it is diagnosed and treated. Signs and symptoms of periodontal disease include bleeding, swollen or tender gums, bad breath that doesn’t go away, loose teeth, pus between your teeth and gums, or a change in the way your teeth fit together.

For the majority of people, the detection and treatment of periodontal disease is relatively straightforward.

The most effective treatment for slight to moderate cases of periodontal disease is to perform scaling and root planning (deep cleaning above and below the gum line) which can usually be done in our office.
